Our first visit to Galinkpegu Primary School was in 2023 to conduct a community Health Screening. Although successful, this trip exposed us to some very key challenges the school and community were facing.
1. Collapsed classroom block.
2. Students lying on their belly to learn due to lack of seats.
3. Teachers demarcating the floor for students to write due to lack of books and other essential learning materials.
4. Teachers teaching only core subjects as they don’t have textbooks for the electives.
5. Students attending school barefooted.
6. Students coming to school with improper or no uniforms at all.
7. Students not returning to school after going home to eat at break as they are not included in the School feeding program.
8. Students entirely uninterested in education due to the numerous challenges they face.
As an organization that puts priority on the education and health of Children we started taking steps to see how best we can support alleviate the consequences for the pupils.
We wrote proposals, we pitched at events, we met key community stakeholders to discuss the best ways to find a solution to this and bring light to the faces and future of these innocent souls.
It has been a thrilling journey. It’s been educative, it’s been a learning journey as well.
Tomorrow we will share with you the fruits of these efforts.
You will be glad
You will be amazed
You will be Happy
We can’t keep calm at all.
